Charles Christian Rathgeber


Born in Hertfordshire and raised in London by an English mother and a German father, Charles always was interested in art and culture fusion.

He studied at a boarding school for boys in Harrow until 18 years old. From 1991 to 1993 he studied fine arts at Heatherley's School of Fine Art in London. From 1993 to 1996 he studied at Newcastle College of Art & Design. When finally, in 1997, he decided to dedicate himself to gastronomy, he studied for 3 years at Westminster College of Catering and Hospitality, and afterwards for another 3 years doing an apprenticeship at the Savoy Hotel in London.

In 2002 he went to Germany to work in Hotel Bad Schachen, where he dedicated himself exclusively to confectionery. In the following year, he moved to Vienna, Austria, where he worked at the Intercontinental and Imperial hotels.

In 2005 he moved with his family to Brazil where he practised as a consultant in gastronomy in Salvador and Fortaleza.

Recently, he and his wife Morena opened the doors of Café CharMo.
